Statement on the Passing of President Carter

Updated: Feb 13

President Jimmy Carter’s passing today serves as a reminder of the greatness of our nation. Not because he sought greatness, but because he was a shining example of an American life well lived. He wasn’t a perfect man, nor a perfect president, but he was strong, compassionate and dedicated to the highest ideals of his faith. From his humble beginnings in Georgia to the U.S. Presidency and then as a goodwill ambassador to the entire world, President Carter set a high bar for us to follow. We would do well, regardless of our political affiliations, to remember his love and kindness for his family, friends, communities and the nation he served, both in the U.S. Navy and in the political sphere. Individuals like President Carter don’t come around very often and each of us have been blessed to witness the extraordinary life he led. We send our deepest condolences to his family and also our gratitude for sharing him with all of us across the globe, in war and peace. May his memory be a blessing.
